Tettled
in Tanzania since 1967, Tanganyika Wildlife Safari controls
more than half of the hunting in the Selous Game Reserve.
Whether for hunting or photographic safari, the company has
gained a worldwide reputation for the precision of its organisation,
the high standard of its professional hunters, the quality
of its trophies and its attention to detail in some of the
most luxurious camps to be found in Africa. The company's
founder, Gerard Pasanisi, has hunted in the Selous Game Reserve
professionally for twenty eight years and so is more knowledgeable
than most about the area and its animals. His love of the
area has lead him to take a decisive lead in the fight against
the poaching problem.
Declared a National Park in 1905, the Selous
Game Reserve covers more than 50,000km2 and is
totally uninhabited by man. A unique and beautiful natural
setting with every type of topography, the park is home to
more than one million animals representing all the most important
species to be found in Africa. The visitor to the Selous Game
Reserve today sees Africa in the same state that enchanted
famous names of the past such as Karen Blixen, Ernest Hemingway
and Romain Gary. The hunting on 30,000m2 of the reserve (more
than 2/3 of the whole area) is managed by Tanganyika Wildlife
Safari.
Upon arrival, you will be met at Dar es Salaam
international airport, where all formalities (customs, gun
import and immigration) will be arranged for you.
Depending on your arrival time, you will
be escorted either to a first class hotel in Dar es Salaam,
or directly to your private charter plane for departure to
one of two different camps. Kihurumira Camp has been designated
the Holland & Holland camp and is deemed to be of a higher
standard, both for hunting, services and facilities, than
anywhere else in Tanzania. The game and the professional hunters
here ensure that you have the best opportunities possible
for an extremely successful hunt, particularly for elephant,
buffalo, big black-maned lion, leopard and kudu. Due to the
abundance of game and the massive area that is seldom reached
by hunting parties, quotas for certain animals are generous
and trophy fees are generally lower (especially for buffalo).
Indeed, this is one of the few remaining areas in Africa where
four of the 'Big Five' can be pursued from the same camp.
In the Selous reserve all camps must be non-permanent
and so Kihurumira is constructed of top quality tents which
are insect and fly proof under roofs constructed of local
thatch. En-suite toilet and shower facilities are to the rear
of each tent. The mess area, pictured above, is under a thatched
roof and is furnished to a high standard.
Tanganyika Wildlife Safari also operates
an area that extends to 22,000km2 to the north in Masailand
and here the camps are also of high quality. Species such
as gerenuk, oryx and lesser kudu can be hunted here. Where
a range of species is required it is often recommended that
a safari be split between Selous and Masailand.
